Brooklyn
International High School

Dance
Theatre Etcetera was a cultural partner of the Brooklyn
International High School from its inception in 1994 until 2009.
DTE's
programming at the school helped to grow a vibrant arts scene.
The
school now boasts impressively low incidences of violence, a strong
school community, and multiple student-produced performing arts events
and festivals every year, supported by a fulltime staff of quality arts
educators.
Performing
Arts Workshop
The Performing Arts
Workshop at BIHS is an after-school opportunity for students to explore
cross-cultural dialogue through creative movement, dance and dramatic
activities. Since the program's beginning in 1996, hundreds of students
have attended the workshop and performed original interdisciplinary
theatre pieces about the immigrant experience and social policy.
Beginning in 2002, students from Martha's classes at New York
Univiersty have assisted in facilitating the workshops as well as
performing with BIHS students.
International
Festival
The annual BIHS
International Festival celebrates the diverse cultural traditions
represented in the BIHS student body and draws an audience of up to 500
people from Brooklyn’s greater immigrant community. Over 200 students
out of a total 350 who attend BIHS take part as performers, crew or
documentors.
