Media Educator Boot Camp

Saturday, June 24 at 10 am

DTE is seeking experienced media (filmmaking/video) educators for its work at public high schools in New York City as well as it’s community-based programs in Red Hook, Brooklyn in summer 2017 and the 2017-2018 academic year. To be eligible for work in DTE media program, candidates must participate in the DTE’s Digital Media Educator Boot Camp on Saturday, June 24 from 10 am to 6 pm in scenic Red Hook, Brooklyn.

DTE’s Digital Media Education Workshop is a professional development intensive with a focus on the facilitation skills and techniques required to lead media workshops for teens and young adults from low-income communities. The Digital Media Education Workshop cohort will include no more than 10 participants, allowing every media educator an opportunity to deepen their teaching practice with time for 1-on-1 consideration.

Participants will:

  • Learn best practices in media education
  • Develop effective, progressive lesson plans
  • Learn how to collaborate with teachers and other educators
  • Deepen teaching impact and connect to the principles of critical pedagogy
  • Incorporate DTE’s principles of youth development and progressive curriculum into teaching style
  • Connect with a community of educators, artists, and teaching artists.

Digital Media Education Workshop participants will receive a travel stipend and free lunch. Afterward, participants will also have the opportunity to join an optional networking mixer.

About DTE’s Media Educators

The ideal candidates will have significant experience (3+ years) facilitating media curricula in public school settings or community-based media programs. Strong classroom management skills and facility with audio and video equipment is mandatory. Experience in multi-disciplinary arts settings (including performing arts) and/or proficiency editing video in Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere is preferred.

All incoming media educators are required to participate in the DTE Media Educator Boot Camp.
