DTE Teaching Artists cultivate their students’ artistic skill and civic engagement simultaneously. Student projects often reflect the issues at the forefront of our students’ minds as well as the topics that are most relevant in their communities. DTE’s student-centered approach to arts education fosters students’ abilities in and access to artistic skills while using their craft to engage young people with their communities, interests, and remaining studies. Over the years, DTE students have produced documentaries, reported on businesses, performed poetry, danced, acted, DJ’d, and used various other artistic skills and mediums.
Each year, DTE’s Summer Digital Boot Camp students shoot, edit, and produce videos for and about locally-owned Red Hook businesses.
